TOBB’s 70th General Assembly is being held on
May 22nd, 2014, at the Ankara TOBB University
of Economics and Technology. TOBB’s General
Assemblies are significant in keeping tabs on the
state of the economy as well as bringing together
the business community from the 81 provinces
of Turkey, all sectors and all scales, national and
international.
While 5 million people lost their jobs during the
global economic crisis in Europe, the Turkish private
sector has provided employment to an additional
5 million people during the last 5 years. TOBB
members alone present an employment center
comprised of 11 million people throughout Turkey.
Fully aware of its responsibilities and working with
determination and will, TOBB continues to fulfill its
duties. Generating three fourths of Turkey’s national
income as well as conducting 95% of its international
trade, TOBB acts with the knowledge that the
country’s growth and development is only possible
through a well-organized economy. Taking all of this
into account, TOBB has undertaken a key role in
Turkey’s industrialization, the development of its
machinery industry, effective use of its technological
power and operation of its free market. In the words
of TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu: “The
Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges is
Turkey. It is Turkey’s unity and solidarity.”
