UN declares 2014
“the International Year of
Family Farming”
The United Nations (UN)
declared 2014 the International
Year of Family Farming” or “Family
Farming Year” for short. This means
that, throughout the year, the world
will discuss the issues effecting
family farming. It will attempt to
uphold the family farming model
for sustainable agriculture. The
European Union (EU) has already
begun work on the issue. The
2014-2020 budget approved at
the European Parliament recently
has brought family farming to the
fore with policies for agricultural
support. It was announced that
there would be special subsidies in
this regard.
WTO 9. Ministers’ Meeting results
and
importance for Turkey
The Trade Facilitation
Agreement was signed during the
World Trade Organization’s 9th
Ministers’ Meeting held in Bali,
Indonesia, with the attendances
of 159 members. Referred to as
the “Bali Package”, the agreement
aims for the liberalization of the
global trade which has taken on
more and more of a protectionist
stance in recent years, to ensure
that mechanisms to allow goods
and services to cross borders
easily as well as lessening the
bureaucratic burden of financial
procedures.
US Chamber
of Commerce
Delegation
visited TOBB
Visiting Turkey in order to
contribute to financial aspect of
Turkey-USA relations and as a part
of the cooperation signed between
TOBB and the US Chamber of
Commerce on December 14th,
2012, the delegation led by the
US Chamber of Commerce Vice
President Myran Brilliant attended
the business dinner hosted by TOBB
President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu.
Giving a speech at the dinner
TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu, said
that Turkey needs to be a more
discussed subject in US business
circles and that they plan to deepen
financial relations, “The cooperation
which will be developed will
provide many benefits to both
countries. Turkey’s financial
transformation will benefit from it.
Turkey’s 2023 vision will become
even more meaningful.”
